Kay Aston, co-owner of The Screen Acting Studio with renowned teacher and coach Aaron Speiser, specializes in teaching and coaching for film and television acting. As an actor and coach with two decades of experience in front of and behind the camera, she is uniquely trained to help all actors to work in the film and television industry.
As an actor, Kay trained with the inimitable Svetlana Efremova, earning top honors at CSU Fullerton with an MFA in acting. She played the lead role of Rosalind in Shakespeare's AS YOU LIKE IT, which was chosen by ACTF to play at the Kennedy Center.
She also graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. in theater from Gustavus Adolphus college in Minnesota. During her college years, she trained at the London Dramatic Academy, receiving extensive training in Shakespeare, character work, and text analysis.
Although her initial training was in theater, she discovered her love for screen acting, and pivoted her focus to camera. She worked in major commercial campaigns (NIKE, Volkswagen, Apple, among many others), booked work in TV and Film (MY CRAZY EX, THE AFFAIR, etc), and continued to study under Aaron Speiser, who has mentored her closely as a teacher and coach. She also gained entry to the core track of study in Improvisation at The Groundlings, passing the Advanced level.
She has worked on the sets of HUSTLERS, KING RICHARD, MARRY ME, and the upcoming feature EMANCIPATION. Her most recent credited work was as Maluma’s acting coach in the Jennifer Lopez/Owen Wilson rom-com MARRY ME. She works with many levels of experienced actors, from series regulars to true beginners.
Aaron has been working with Will for over 20 years— his performance in King Richard earned him an Oscar for Best Actor as well as a SAG Award, Critics Choice Award, and Golden Globe.
